The ‘90s Are Back—But Didn’t We Just Live Through Them?
If you told me in 1994 that one day the fashion I lived in—striped tops, ripped jeans, oversized check shirts, and my trusty Converse—would be considered vintage and make a full-on comeback, I would have laughed and turned up my Pearl Jam CD a little louder. And yet, here we are in 2025, and the ‘90s are officially retro?! Excuse me while I process this existential crisis. 😅
For those of us who were teenagers in the early ‘90s, seeing Gen Z embrace our beloved grunge, baggy denim, and baby tees is both hilarious and a little surreal. We invented this look (well, maybe more accurately, we stole it from our older siblings and rock bands), and now it’s back in stores as if it’s some groundbreaking new trend. But hey, fashion is cyclical, and if the ‘90s are making a return, I say we lean in and enjoy the nostalgia.
The ‘90s Staples Making a Comeback
🖤 Grunge Vibes: Flannel shirts, band tees, relaxed denim—basically, the uniform of any self-respecting Nirvana fan. Back in the day, I was “borrowing” my dad’s check shirts and layering them over my striped tops. Now? You can find them again in the shops
👖 Baggy & Relaxed Jeans: Skinny jeans have had their time in the sun, but now we’re back to wide-leg, straight-cut, and actually comfortable denim. The ultimate win for anyone who ever had to fight their way into a pair of low-rise skinnies.
👟 Converse & Chunky Shoes: My trusty Converse got me through my teenage years, and now they’re everywhere again. Whether it’s classic Chuck Taylors or big, stompy Dr Martin platform boots, ‘90s footwear is all about attitude.
How to Rock the ‘90s Revival (Without Looking Like You’re Stuck in 1995)
1️⃣ Mix Old with New: Pair vintage finds with modern pieces. A check flannel over a tank top, or baggy jeans with a structured blazer, keeps things fresh.
2️⃣ Wear What You Love: The best part about the ‘90s was the individuality. Whether you were full grunge, into the minimalist Calvin Klein aesthetic, or rocked a Spice Girls vibe, there’s room for everyone in this comeback.
So, what do we think? Are we thrilled to see our teenage wardrobes back in action, or are we having a we are officially old moment? Either way, I say embrace it—after all, we did it first. 😉
